Biodiesel : Biodiesel is a fuel that is normally created from vegetable oil. It can be blended with or even entirely replace petroleum diesel. It is clean burning and produced from domestic and renewable resources. In the U.S., most of our biodiesel is made from virgin soybean oil, but can also be made from virtually any oil producing plant including corn, sunflower, palm, avocado, hemp, peanut, walnut, rapeseed, and mustard to name a few. It can also be made from animal fats, algae, or even recycled waste vegetable oils. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics. It is becoming more readably available and has approached roughly the same price as regular gasoline. |
